Cherry Berry blasts to top

After a few weeks of disappointing frozen yogurt, the bar was set pretty low when I visited Cherry Berry on my fro-yo adventure this week. Cherry Berry, a relatively new shop in Omaha, has only two far-away locations: 144th and F and 157th and Pacific. After my usual weekend trip to Trader Joe’s, I paid a visit to the 157th and Pacific location.

Upon arrival, Cherry Berry has the same look and feel as Orange Leaf; while Orange Leaf’s color scheme was orange and green, Cherry Berry’s was red and green. The shop was pretty busy for it being 12:30 p.m. on a Sunday (only thirty minutes after opening).

What first caught my eyes aside from the colors, though, were the prices. Cherry Berry doesn’t use a weighing system for prices; instead, a very small cup of yogurt always costs $2.25. Add toppings, and the price rises to $3.25. Similarly, the next size cup costs $3.25, and with toppings, it costs $4.25. These prices are set, meaning you can fill the cup up as much as you want with yogurt and toppings without prices going up.

Just as the prices were appealing, so was the actual yogurt. Cherry Berry offers a variety of flavors, from Chocolate Dipped Strawberries to Sea Salt Caramel Pretzel to several different fruit flavors (excluding cherry, ironically). I was fairly impressed by all of the ones I sampled, with the exception of, unbelievably, the β€œChocoholic” flavor.

After choosing the Rocky Road flavor (I couldn’t veer too far off from my chocolate obsession), I made my way to the toppings selection where I was greeted with the usual treats, boba and fruits. Though the fruit selection was minimal, the fruit they did have looked (and tasted) fresh. I threw some strawberries, brownie bites and Sour Patch Kids into my bottomless cup, paid for my yogurt and, because I was so impressed, signed up for Cherry Berry’s loyalty card.

This semester, I’ve visited Orange Leaf, Red Mango, Peachwave, TCBY (twice), Scooter’s and Cherry Berry. Cherry Berry was definitely one of my favorites, but will it be the favorite? Next week, I will reveal which fro-yo joint in Omaha beat out all the rest – and why.

Anna Shymanski visited Cherry Berry on 157th and Pacific this week. With affordable prices and a variety of flavors, Cherry Berry was one of her favorite fro-yo joints.
