We all have some movie quotes that we regularly say and never forget. Why are some quotes so memorable and stick with us through time?
What makes a good movie quote? According to a recent study done by team of researchers at Cornell University, there are some factors that make a quote good and memorable. The most important factor is that the quote should have a familiar sentence structure that could be applied to many situations at different times.
Some of the most memorable movie quotes are:
– βToto, Iβve got a feeling weβre not in Kansas anymore.β β The Wizard of Oz (1939)
– βOh yes, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it, or learn from it.β β The Lion King (1994)
– βSay hello to my little friend.β β Scarface (1938)
– βKeep your friends close, but your enemies closer.β β The Godfather II (1974)
– βMama said life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what youβre going to get.β β Forrest Gump (1994)
When interviewing some of our fellow students, they had a different share on their favorite quotes:
Arts & Sciences freshman Sebastian Rodriguez says his favorite quote is from the movie βBefore Midnightβ (2013): βLike sunlight, sunset, we appear, we disappear. We are so important to some, but we are just passing through.β
Business senior Maria Jose Grijalva says her favorite quote is from βMy Best Friendβs Weddingβ: βIf you love someone, you say it, right then, out loud. Otherwise the moment just passes you by.β
All of these quotes have left a legacy. What is so interesting to us is that we can apply them to many situations in our day-to-day lives.
