Foodie finishes fro-yo journey

This semester, I made it my goal to find the best frozen yogurt in Omaha. Over the past couple of months, I’ve visited as many fro-yo joints as Omaha has to offer, including Orange Leaf, Red Mango, Peachwave, TCBY (twice), Scooter’s and Cherry Berry. One frozen yogurt place, I believe, stood out among the rest.

If you know me well at all, it’s no secret that I’ve always been a big fan of Red Mango frozen yogurt. I crave its Nutella-flavored yogurt almost on the daily. In fact, I’m craving it as I write this final fro-yo column.

Throughout the semester, I guess I hoped I would find another yogurt place that satisfied my taste buds as much as Red Mango does. It turns out that I couldn’t, meaning that I declare Red Mango the best frozen yogurt in Omaha.

Maybe it’s my undying love for that chocolate hazelnut taste. Maybe it’s the freshness of the large variety of flavorful fruit toppings. All I know is that every time I go to Red Mango, I feel fresh, healthy and satisfied at the same time.

While I’ve always had a soft spot for Red Mango, I promise to all of my loyal readers that I went into each frozen yogurt shop with an open mind. Every time I tried a new place, however, my mind always drifted back to Red Mango, and I wished I had spent my money there instead.

I was, however, pleasantly surprised by some of the other places in Omaha. Cherry Berry on 157th and Pacific was a close second to Red Mango, with its great-tasting variety of yogurt flavors and adequate topping choices. Scooter’s frozen yogurt was also much better than I expected it to be.

The worst frozen yogurt, by far, was Peachwave on 120th and L. While it too had a variety of flavors, the quality was poor. If I had been a fan of boba, though, I might have enjoyed it a bit more.

Trying all of the different frozen yogurt places in Omaha was my first adventure into food writing and something that I’d like to pursue a bit more as time goes on. It was fun treating myself each week to something sweet. I look forward to trying different fro-yo places in the coming years, but something tells me I’ll always compare them to my beloved Red Mango.

After several months of visitng various fro-yo spots in Omaha, Shymanski claimed Red Mango as her favorite spot because of the taste and variety of fruit toppings.
