The most hyped film of the year by far has finally landed in theaters.
Earth is in tremendous peril. Resources are scarce, living conditions are poor and the human race is facing extinction.Β Farmer and former pilot Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and Professor Amelia Brand (Anne Hathaway) are needed for a secret NASA team whose mission is to find a new home beyond our solar system that can sustain life. With time of the essence, mankind ventures into space by means of interstellar travel.
Audiences have anticpated this movie for over a year, and it does not disappoint.Β Director Christopher Nolan gives you one of the best viewing experiences you can ask for.Β Look for this movie to be up for awards in the coming months.
Visually, Interstellar is breathtaking, especially during the voyage in space.Β I highly recommend watching this in IMAX because it only enhances your viewing experience. Hans Zimmer, who wrote the filmβs movie score, created a piece that really complements the story and enhances the audiences visualization of space. The score ties the plot together musically and makes the audience excited to experience the highs and lows of the film.
The plot was kept very secret over the course of the movieβs filming and leading up to its release.
Interstellar relies heavenly on quick dialogue to propel the plot forward. You may be surprised at various parts in the movie both in a good and confusing way.Β It is scientific in nature, but captivates you imagination nonetheless.
Nolan assembled a superb cast for this film. Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises), Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games); and David Gyasi (Cloud Atlas) give well-crafted performances as a team of four astronauts entrusted to save the human race.Β Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Michael Cane (The Dark Knight) also give great performances.
In an interview with National Public Radio, Nolan said making a space movie was a childhood dream of his. He attributesΒ his inspirations to movies like Star Wars, claiming that those movies spoke to him about the potential of movies.
The film incorporates a good balance of modern references with futuristic possibilities. The characters in the film areΒ guides for us as we explore the possibilities beyond our current reality. Nolan does this so that the viewer gets to experience the first steps out into the universe with people who the audience can understand and emotionally respond to.
Be prepared to stretch your imagination when making some connections throughout the movie. At times you may find yourself confused, but trust that the story does a great job making it understandable. You may want to see it a few times to pick up on things you missed in a single viewing.
I recommend seeing this movie. It isΒ a highly creative and a richly rewarding movie experience that will have you thinking about it days after watching. It holds a 91% on IMDb. The film has grossed $132 million worldwide since being released Nov. 5.
