‘Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’ promotes body positivity

Every year, just weeks before Christmas day, the hottest fashion show on the planet airs on CBS.Β  When we think of the terms β€œhot” and β€œfashion show,” what is it that comes to mind?Β

Victoria’s Secret is among the most prominent brands of women’s lingerie in the whole world.Β  Not only is the company’s brand represented by β€˜hot’ models, but the β€œmost beautiful women on the planet.” But what does this mean on a larger scale?

When women, especially teens and young adults, are exposed to this sex appeal on their televisions, how does it make them feel? What is the message that Victoria’s Secret is trying to send out to its fans and viewers?

To many, Victoria’s Secret models look fit, strong, and stunning.Β  However, to many others, they look underweight and unappealing while trying to convey a message that all women should look like them in order to be considered β€œsexy” or β€œbeautiful.”

Who’s actually right in this situation?Β  Is it ok to essentially harass the models about their bodies, saying that their bodies are β€œunrealistic”?Β

In my eyes, I see it the message Victoria’s Secret promotes as accepting the beauty you have and promoting it in a positive manner.Β  The models who represent Victoria’s Secret, especially in interviews, have repeatedly been modest about themselves and encouraging about appreciating other women’s appearances.Β  In other words, how I see it, is that they are actually humble about their appearance and don’t wish harm to other women.Β

For instance, Miranda Kerr has always been an inspiration of mine. She rocked the runway for several years and recently signed off in order to work for other agencies. She published a book, β€œTreasure Yourself,” and I even brought it with me to college.

While reading through it, I have been able to see things from her perspective, which has changed my how I view her, along with other models as well.Β  She carries an encouraging demeanor in her words, such as when she affirms that, β€œIn my eyes, we are all equal. No one person is more special than another. In order to love others fully, you need to first love and accept yourself.”

Overall, what I am trying to get at is that Victoria’s Secret isn’t trying to actually convey a message that you have to look like their models in order to be considered β€œbeautiful.” All women have different sizes and body types for a reason.

As a fashion blogger, I look into Victoria’s Secret fashion with an open and accepting attitude. Victoria’s Secret inspired me to always walk forward with confidence and to be proud of my image. The Victoria’s Secret models are modeling self-confidence, not just lingerie.
