In an email sent out Sunday afternoon, Bruce Rohde and Dick Kizer, co-chairs of the Presidential Search Committee, announced that the Board of Trustees has named the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, S.J., Ph.D. as the 25th president of Creighton University.
Hendrickson will assume the presidency on July 1, 2015, succeeding interim President J. Chris Bradberry, Pharm.D., according to the email.
Hendrickson is a Nebraska native and holds multiple academic degrees. He earned his B.A. in psychology and theology at Marquette University and then entered the Society of Jesus. He later earned his master’s degrees from Fordham, Santa Clara, and Columbia universities and his Ph.D. was awarded from Columbia University.
Hendrickson serves on the Board of Trustees of Creighton University, as well as on the boards of Boston College and Xavier University.
Hendrickson will be on campus Monday at 10 a.m. in Skutt Student Center room 104 to meet faculty, staff and students. The event will also be live-streamed at: https://new.livestream.com/CreightonUniversity/PresidentialSsearch
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are very grateful for the work of the search committee and all of the input received from the entire Creighton community–students, faculty, alumni, staff and University leadership,” the email said.
βThe search committee was highly influenced by the feedback and input generated from all corners of the Creighton community through the search process, as well as informal comment accumulated over the last nine months.”
Julie Hefflinger, a member of the Board of Trustees, the search committee and the president of the Creighton University National Alumni Board commented on the importance of finding a new president who would deepen Creighton’s mission, particularly to alumni.
Β “It became clear that across Creighton there is great interest in deepening the university’s connection to its mission,” Hefflinger said. “Our alums have a lasting connection to the unique Jesuit education they received at Creighton, so it is something they want to see endure for years to come.”
Scott Heider, also a member of the search committee and chair of the Heider College of Business Board, expressed confidence in the new president-elect.
“Fr. Hendrickson brings a keen understanding of the value of a Jesuit education,” Heider said. “His global teaching experience and his scholarly agenda, focused on Jesuit teaching, makes him particularly well-prepared to deepen Creighton’s connection to its mission.”
Hendrickson currently serves in the provost’s office at Marquette University.
