Womenβs Journey, a group out of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, hosted its second annual Write a Love Letter to Yourself event Wednesday.
The event aims to brighten peopleβs outlooks in the days leading up to finals by delivering letters with kind words. The kicker; the person who receives a letter will have been the one who wrote it.
βWe oftentimes spend time taking care of other people, but how often do we do it for ourselves?β Assistant Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs Becky Nickerson said. βStudents will write a letter to themselves and right before finals we will send them out so you can read a letter that talks about how great you are.β
Arts & Sciences Junior Deja Morrison said that the letters help people keep a positive outlook during finals.
βFor me, I always like the nice pick-me-up before finals week so Iβm not nervous or depressed,β Morrison said. βI think that when people read the nice words right before finals they think, βOK, I feel better.ββ
Nickerson said that this yearβs event was a success. While last year 60 community members wrote letters to themselves, almost 100 wrote letters this year. Letter writers included students, administrators, staff members, faculty and visiting high school students.
Students write letters to encourage themselves during finals week.Β
