Creighton women’s basketball falls in Big East Championship game

The Creighton women’s basketball team lost 50-37 to St. John’s on March 8 in the Big East championship game.

Some might say these two teams were not the most favored to be in the finals, as Creighton finished eighth in the league standings and St. John’s finished fourth.

“I think as a team we stuck with each other through adversity and once we started winning again everything started clicking for us and we just fell short at the championship,” sophomore guard Myah Mellman said.

When asked about the highs and lows of the season, freshman forward Jaylyn Agnew said that watching St. John’s triumph was difficult to watch.

“The low was seeing them hold the trophy after the game and a high was actually getting to the championship,” said Agnew, who is a redshirt this year.

Freshmen guard Audrey Faber was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Bluejays, scoring 12 points, to go along with 7 rebounds, while MC McGrory finished with 11 total points.

When asked about her thoughts on the her freshmen season, Faber stated that the team succeeded despite some injuries.

“I think staying positive as a team and being even more positive with all the injuries,” she said. “With losing Brianna Rollerson and Marissa Janning has a huge part of how we played in the tournament.”
