CUSOTA organizes fundraising trivia night

On 14th Street right off of Mike Fahey Street sits Zipline brewery, a place for beer, pinball and, last Thursday, a Creighton University Student Occupational Therapy Association hosted trivia night.Β

About 40 people answered questions like β€œWhat do the five Olympic rings represent?” and β€œWhat is the smallest Great Lake?” from 7 to 8 that night.Β

Sydney Peterson, a second year student in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, as well as Creighton’s conference liaison for the American Occupational Therapy Association coordinated the event.Β

When asked why she set this event up, Peterson said, β€œMy job is to raise funds for our members to go to our national conference. We are having this event as a social fundraiser so our members can attend these events”.Β

Zipline Brewery is a small but lively space with tables, and barrels acting as places to put your plate. Four pinball machines give the brewery another unique touch with themes like β€œStar Trek” and β€œFamily Guy.”

β€œWe picked to have it here because they’re a local brewery and they’re donating 20% of sales tonight towards students going to the conference,” Peterson said.Β

There was definitely the feeling of community in the brewery that only small businesses can really bring. Although most of the trivia players were students in the occupational therapy program, some of the other older patrons decided to join in and contributed a lot of laughter to the night.Β

β€œThe craziest thing is, the answers I knew I can’t explain how I knew, with the OT stuff there is random stuff I knew,” Emily O’Brien, a second year student in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, said.Β

β€œI couldn’t go this year because of other factors, but otherwise I would’ve gone,” O’Brien said when asked if she was planning to go to the conference. β€œEven though I can’t go myself, I’m always down for a fun fundraiser!”

Her teammate for the night, Benjamin Boonstra, another second year student in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, said β€œIt was a great atmosphere having professors here and cooperation with all the classes and I thought it was great it was put on through a club and for fundraising. I feel like the questions were great for our general level of knowledge and had good topics and the categories were fun with a wide range of knowledge.”
