CSU announces idea for app to earn rewards for athletic events

Earlier this month, Creighton Student Union President Fin Herrera announced a new app that may be coming to students in the future.

According to Herrera, CSU has partnered up with the Department of Athletics to create a rewards app.

Herrera explained that they want to β€œboost attendance at all Creighton-related athletic events.” Also, β€œ[they] think this will be a great way to captivate the attention of the student body.” The rewards app is planned to be released sometime this semester. There will be a point system, and there will be prizes associated with these points. You receive points by attending athletic events.

Many students voiced their support for the idea of the rewards app. Will Maranan, a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences, said, β€œI really enjoy watching soccer games, and so far, I have been to every home game we have. So, for me, I would really appreciate the rewards system.”

Joe Davis, a sophomore at the College of Business, said, β€œI think it would be a good idea that would increase student attendance at athletic events that aren’t attended as much by the student body.”

There are some students who expressed doubt about the effectiveness of the app.

William Harper, a Junior in the Arts and Sciences, explained that it is a good idea, but he does not see how the rewards offered by CSU and the Department of Athletics could convince upperclassmen not on campus to attend events.

With this reward system, Herrera also announced the creation of the Bluejay Fan Experience Committee. According to Herrera, this committee will be composed of 10-15 students and β€œwill play an integral role in promoting, marketing and designing the rewards app.”
