Social media students at Creighton University are gearing up for a crucial role in enhancing the Jesuit Academyβs social media presence in hopes of increasing the schoolβs donations and overall awareness.
In the words of Anna Kulig, a fellow student who grew up in Omaha, βI had never heard of the Jesuit Academy. I didnβt know it was a school in Omaha.β
Journalism (JRM 327) students were introduced with a semester-long assignment during the first week of school where they could analyze, strategize and create ways for the Jesuit Academy to improve their social media, following in the same footsteps as last yearβs class.
When asked why the assignment was created, Dr. Zuegner stated, βI like the students to get some hands-on experience, and I like them to see whatβs north of Cuming Street.β
This is truly a great opportunity to learn more about the community all the social media students are integrated into.
On Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023, the class took a field trip to the academy to see, learn and hear about its mission.
They were also given the chance to tour the school, meet some of the attending students, and ask the social media director about the school and its history and what made it so special compared to other schools in the area.
Last yearβs class was able to generate a tremendous amount of social media presence, donations and a list of students wanting to go to the academy.
They did so by researching the academyβs social media and analyzing the ways in which the school previously had used their social media to reach their specific target audiences.
As the semester progresses, students will be assigned with creating a total of six social media posts, two posts for three different social media platforms, and two more conducted visits to the academy to gather pictures, statements and other content to use in their creations.
Their final versions of the social media content will be due on Nov. 9, 2023.
As the year passes, they will be able to see the growth that their work has done for the school.
