On Sunday, Jan. 21, Creighton Students Union hosted its first meeting of 2024 by welcoming its new executive team and delegates from nine different colleges and schools throughout Creighton Universityβs campus.
This is the first time in the history of Creighton University that there has ever been an all-female CSU executive team.
Before the meeting began, each executive team member talked briefly about their roles within the program. Emily Meister discussed her role as CSU president and explained how she oversees the entirety of the CSU executive team along with the delegates and cabinet.
She meets with various leaders at Creighton University and holds a strong relationship with the student body and faculty.
When asked to comment about the first all-female CSU executive team, Meister stated, βAlthough it wasnβt intended, I am a firm believer that empowered women empower women.β
Kate Ellis, vice president of the CSU, also explained her role in the program. Ellis leads the House of Delegates and oversees policy and legislation.
Ellis was passionate about beginning yearlong funding for Jay Walk 5k for their community partner, Jesuit Academy. Ellis hopes to get the word out early for the 5k and is passionate about the programβs advertising and fundraising.
Savannah Peters is dedicated to the funding and the sustainable way the CSU can run this calendar year with her position as vice president of finance.
Peters stated, βI would like our funding to incentivize sustainability among our clubs and organizations.β
Cara House, vice president of programming, discussed her role; House oversees Wednesdays After Class, also referred to as WAC, which has been a successful way for students to relax after class with free food, giveaways, and more.
House, along with eight coordinators, also helps to construct and oversee Fallapolloza. 2023βs Fallapolloza was a success with special guest, COIN.
When asked about plans for this yearβs term, House responded, βI want to continue the momentum from last year and bring up student engagement.β
As the CSU all-female executive board assumes office, it not only marks a historic moment for Creighton University but also sets a precedent for inclusivity and gender diversity in leadership roles on campus.
Each executive memberβs diverse skill set and dedication promise a year of innovation, empowerment, and positive change.
