Wareham Court has finally revealed the remodel efforts from the last year. After being housed in a temporary tent structure for the last semester, Qdoba and Firehouse Subs have moved inside.
The Skutt Student Center is now home to three dining options along with the reopened Jack and Edβs and a re-vamped seating area. Reilly Rahill, a second-year OT student on campus and a member of the desk support team, works in Skutt directing traffic, managing the lost and found, and answering any initial questions someone may have in the building.
Sheβs done so prior to the remodel and now says, βItβs gotten a lot busier since the remodel and just seems to be getting more attention back on this side of campus.β
Her thoughts were echoed by Madeline Torbenson, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, βI think that with the new layout in this area, it feels more open, and it looks more modern,β Torbenson said in reference to the former food court conditions. βHowever, I have noticed that it feels like there is less seating than there was before, and itβs always very crowded during lunchtime.β
With new dining came a new lounge area as well with an assortment of couches, high tops, and tables for students to study or enjoy their meals.
βThereβs a lot of nice light that comes in here and comfy little spots to sit and study,β Rahill said.
When asked if there was anything about the space that students should know about but may overlook, Rahill pointed out that there are now three microwaves toward the back of the space for student use.
Torbenson pointed out that while the space may now feel and look more social, the type of study environment has also shifted, with her preferring the quieter corners of the prior space, βI donβt think the new seating is very conducive to studying […] because itβs more open.β
