This year’s MTV’s Video Music Awards showcased big wins from both new and experienced artists.  

 
The VMAs were aired live from UBS Arena in New York on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, who delivered an eye-catching performance during the show. 

                
 Megan Thee Stallion’s performance included hit songs “Hiss” and “Mamushi.” She paired her performance with sparkling dresses and bodysuits, as well as a recreation of Britney Spears’s “Slave 4 U” performance outfit, which included a live snake draped over her shoulders. 

 
Veteran artists like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa took home some big wins. Newer artists, such as Chappell Roan, Tyla and Benson Boone also had notable achievements, with Best New Artist going to the “Midwest Princess” herself, Chappell Roan. 

                 
Additionally, there were some entertaining performances from both up-and-coming and seasoned artists, including Katy Perry, Chappell Roan and Shawn Mendes. Perry’s performance was sure to catch the attention of viewers with her bright and shiny costumes, catchy melodies and pop legacy. 

                
 Mendes’ performance included some newer sounds for the artist. His new song “Nobody Knows” struck listeners with uncharacteristic genres.  With hints of country and folk, it seems Mendes is in an era of reinvention.  

 
Sabrina Carpenter delivered an incredible performance of hit songs “Espresso,” “Taste” and “Please PleasePlease,” the last of which won the award for Song of the Year. She instantly captured the viewers’ attention with her striking entrance on a swing from the arena’s ceiling. 

 
Additionally, Taylor Swift took home awards for Best Collaboration for “Fortnite,” as well as for Best Pop, Best Direction and Best Editing.  

 
According to The Hollywood Reporter, after winning Video of the Year for her song “Fortnite,” Swift thanked both fans and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, saying, “Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic.” 

 
Swift made VMA history.  According to CBS News, Swift is now the “most-awarded solo artist in VMAs history… tying her with Beyoncé for most overall VMA wins.” 

                 
Overall, the night was a hit, with dazzling performances from experienced artists and debut performances by VMA newcomers.
