What are the best places on campus for personal zen and/or studying?
Dear Bluejay,
Life at Creighton is a really rewarding place to be, but honestly the academics, clubs, campus life, work and social demands can get really overwhelming.
I think it is really important to recharge throughout the day/week, and one way is to find a quiet spot to study.
The right environment can make all the difference in how productive you can be and how that can affect the rest of your week.
Some on-campus zen & study spots are all over the place and even hiding in plain sight! The Lied Education Center for the Arts has great natural light and a quiet place to relax or have a productive study session.
The Reinert Alumni Memorial Library (Quiet Floors- Basement) is a great place when it’s time to get some serious studying done.
Don’t be scared of this basement! This floor is designed for focusing which is a great distraction-free environment.
Similarly the Creighton Law Library is a great place for a quiet and focused atmosphere. Which makes it a great alternative to the more crowded campus spots, especially during midterms and finals week.
If you want to be outside, on sunny days the Harper Center patio is the place to get work done or just relax.
With plenty of seating and scenic views of campus, you can catch up on reading, or just enjoy a moment of calm in the fresh air and soak up some sun.
The rocking chairs outside Creighton Hall are an iconic spot to relax, people-watch or read a book. It’s a special part of the Creighton charm, and a peaceful spot that’s great for finding your zen in the heart of campus.
Off-Campus zen places aren’t too far from campus, but are a great alternative if you need a change of scenery! Just a short walk or drive from campus, just keep walking an additional block past Heider Residence hall, is the Joslyn Art Museum.
This museum is great for getting creative inspiration and calm. They have a sculpture garden and galleries that offer a quiet and gorgeous environment.
Admission to the general collection at this museum is free, so it is totally accessible for anyone you might want to check it out with.
The Gene Leahy Mall has been recently renovated downtown and has beautiful walking paths, water features and a lot of spots to sit down and relax.
No matter what kind of spot you’re looking for, I hope these spaces give you a perfect spot for relaxation, focus and resetting for the day/week or whatever is going on!
Best, Bluejay
