Bakery serves French, Asian pastries

Tous Les Jours (TLJ) is a French-Asian bakery chain that recently opened a location at 7538 Dodge St. in Omaha next to the Asian Market. TLJ follows the same structure as many bakery chains from East Asia: customers take a tray and a pair of tongs, pick any number pastries they want, proceed to the checkout area and are checked out by a friendly cashier.

TLJ sells a wide variety of pastries, my personal favorite being the strawberry whipped cream croissant. Perhaps you would like to try the spinach danish or the honey cheese mochi pancake. Some of the pastries can be picked up and eaten at the store while others are wrapped in plastic, such as the pastel array of banana and strawberry dough bread. There’s a nice selection of chocolate pastries as well. Maybe you’re a traditionalist who likes pain au chocolat or the chocolate croissant, which is coated with chocolate icing and showered in walnut flakes.

Or maybe you would love something savory, like the various sausage breads. If you’re looking for bread, TLJ has got you covered. Bread is sold by the loaf, so pick up the whole milk loaf or the raisin bread.

There’s a glass case of soft pink and white cakes as well. Customers have the choice of purchasing a whole cake or just a slice. Recently, I bought a strawberry cloud cake for my sister’s birthday. The vanilla cream was very light and fluffy, and the bits of strawberry and blueberry helped complement the soft vanilla cake. But if you’re a pound cake fan, don’t fret! The store sells marble and vanilla pound cake slices in its refrigerated section, as well as cheesecakeβ€”not the New York kind, but the Korean rendition that’s closer to a sweet flatbread.

You can also order drinks like coffee, blended smoothies or frappes at the checkout area at the front of the store. There’s a homey dining area where you can sit at small tables or a couch, depending on whatever you’re feeling.

TLJ seems to be a popular spot for college students, as students are often seen working here with their AirPods in and their MacBooks out. I think it is a nice study spot away from campus!
