Kappa Pi International Art Honor Society held an informational meeting in the Lied Education Center for the Arts building Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m.Β
Kappa Pi is an art club that welcomes students of all backgrounds, whether they be studying art or just remotely interested in it.Β
βKappa Pi is for a community of art appreciators whether or not you study art or make art,β Isabelle Fleming, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences and founder of the club, said.Β
The meeting attendees held a plethora of different student backgrounds and fields of studies, ranging from neuroscience and nursing majors to studio art majors. The students interested in Kappa Pi were not all strictly artists or art connoisseurs, but all were art enthusiasts at the very least.Β
When asked about why she attended the meeting, freshman in the College of Nursing Jada Anzures said that she, βwanted to find a community that had more art involvement. Iβm looking forward to making new friends and sticking with this club to see where it goes and how it contributes to the community.βΒ
This new chapter here at Creighton is an honors society, however honors level membership is not required to join this club.Β
βThe experience of the club will not differ whether or not youβre invited to join the honors membership,β Fleming said during the meeting.Β
βIβm very pleased that Kappa Pi is starting here at Creighton University,β Rachel Mindrup, assistant professor of Medical Humanities, said. βI was a Kappa Pi member myself.βΒ
Mindrup was assisting in planning event ideas and suggested gallery showcases during the meetings.Β
βItβs wonderful that we finally have a society to bring together students interested in the arts in a variety of capacities,β said Erin Averett, associate professor of art history and archaeology. Averett also attended the meeting and shared advice and encouragement to the students.Β
This new club, as said in the meeting by Fleming, offers art history research, scholarship, internship and job networking and opportunities. Building of portfolios and exhibitions of art works are also offered.Β
βThe opportunities are endless, itβs really what you make it,β said Fleming.Β
As plans were discussed for the future of the organization, Kappa Pi is currently anticipating museum trips, analyzing movie nights, guest speakers, walking tours of Omaha architecture and murals, along with attending local art events and features.
