Crime documentaries and TV shows on Netflix are often hit or miss but βWaco: American Apocalypseβ is a hit. Β
Following the story of the 51-day standoff in Waco, Texas in 1993, the documentary mini-series does a superb job at telling all sides of the story. Β
Instead of focusing on David Koresh, the leader of the cult, the series focuses on those affected by the standoff from children who escaped, to agents involved and even those who still believe in Koreshβs message to this day.Β
The series manages to evade the trap that so many documentaries discussing cults and serial killers do by broadening the scope of its discussion past the cult leader. It was a refreshing take for a crime documentary and provides the viewer with a more holistic view of the events that unfolded in Waco. Β
The documentary consisted of firsthand accounts and also included never-before-seen footage from Waco. The combination made for vivid storytelling sure to capture the interest of any true-crime fan. Β
Unlike the βDahmerβ TV show aired on Netflix in 2022, βWaco: American Apocalypseβ is free of romanization of the events that occurred, and thanks to the information coming from the interviews with people involved the program is surprisingly unbiased. The show provides you with the puzzle pieces so that you can make up your mind as to what you think about the events at Waco.Β
For the true-crime fans out there this is a must watch.Β
