Although Wichita State is undoubtedly the ruler of Missouri Valley volleyball at the moment, the Bluejays refused to bow down Saturday night.
The Jays lost to the Shockers, but they managed to take one set and were within two points of winning the two others. The scores were 25-16, 22-25, 27-25 and 25-23.
The Jays had 45 kills, 68 digs and 15 blocks while the Shockers finished with 61 kills, 74 digs, and eight blocks.
After losing the first set, the Jays rallied to an 18-11 lead in the second and held on for the win despite a late surge by WSU.
The opposite held true in the third set. After coming back from a 17-12 deficit to tie it at 23, the Jays could not convert on two set point chances.
The fourth set was back-and-forth the whole time until the end, when Wichita State’s Angela Jakubov hit a kill for match point.
Creighton dropped to 0-31 all-time against ranked teams while Wichita State remains one of the five undefeated teams in the nation. Creighton dropped to 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in the MVC.
