Men’s basketball tops SIU in Illinois

Creighton continues to roll as they picked up their sixth straight win on Feb. 14 in Carbondale, Ill. The Jays topped the Southern Illinois Salukis in an 82-60 wallop Saturday night televised nationally on ESPN2. Creighton hasn’t won in Carbondale since the 2000-2001 season.

The Bluejays, led in scoring by senior guard Booker Woodfox who made 5 of 10 on the floor and 2-2 from the free throw line for a combined 15 total points, shot almost 57% from the field throughout the game. The only time the team trailed the Salukis was in the opening two minutes when SIU drained a three-pointer to open a 3-0 lead. Creighton then went on a 12-0 scoring streak and never looked back. The team led 42-19 at halftime and dominated the rest of the game, holding a double-digit lead throughout the half. Four Jays players scored in double digits-Woodfox, sophomore guards Kaleb Korver (14) and P’Allen Stinnett (11) and sophomore center Kenton Walker (11).

The team currently is one game behind the league leader UNI Panthers and every game now has championship implications.

Creighton (21-6, 11-4) returns to the court Tuesday night at Qwest Center Omaha looking to push its winning streak to seven straight against Evansville (15-10,7-8). Tipoff is set for 7:05 PM CST.
