In the first day of the Corpus Christi Invitational, the Jays lost to Indiana State and then beat Detroit.
In the 3-4 loss to Indiana State, the Jays totaled six hits, and stranded seven runners. Junior pitcher Tara Oltman pitched a complete game, allowing four runs on six hits. Indiana pitcher Katie Armour gave up two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh, but stranded the tying and go-ahead runs.
The Jays bounced back against Detroit, beating them 8-0 in a five-inning five inning game that was called because of the run-rule.
Freshman pitcher Kylie Hovinga pitched a one-hitter against the Titans in her collegiate debut, while junior right fielder Jessi Jadlowski, junior first baseman Michelle Graner, senior catcher Laura Kratochvil and junior second baseman Michelle Koch combined for the team’s eight runs.
The Jays continue in the Corpus Christi Invitational tomorrow, facing off against North Texas at 11 a.m. and Texas A&M at 1 p.m.
