There were many in attendance at last semester’s Third Eye Blind concert for Fallapalooza, but the band didn’t just appear out of thin air. Rather, it was brought to Creighton by the Creighton Students Union Program Board. The same board has elected a new vice president.
CSU has hired Arts & Sciences junior Monet Schrodermier as the new Vice President of Programming. As Vice President of Programming, Schrodermier is in charge of organizing events on campus, residing over CSU meetings and requesting and negotiating all contracts. She also plays a large role on deciding what events to bring to Creighton.
“We work very hard to find programs and events that are entertaining, educational, recreational and that we believe will have success on campus.” Schrodermier said.
Schrodermier has had a long history in clubs and organizations. At her high school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she worked on the International Student Rotary Club and Student Senate.
“Through the Student Senate, I helped plan Homecoming, school spirit and fundraising events,” she said. “Through International Student Rotary Club, I planned two service events per month for the club of 150 students.”
Schrodermier decided to major in public relations at Creighton, which led her to the CSU Program Board where she began as the Wednesdays After Class coordinator. She still wanted to be active with programming and the governing side of CSU while also giving back to the students, so she applied for VP of Programming.
In her new position, Schrodermier will strive to continue to bring programming to Creighton that is responsive to students needs.
“I hope to be available to constituents and be able to reach out to them in order to further know what kinds of programming they would like to see on campus.”
CSU is bringing stand-up comedian Alexandra McHale all the way from Los Angeles on Feb. 26. She’ll be performing in the Skutt Student Center Ballroom.
At 7 p.m. that evening, the Program Board will also announce the band for the upcoming Spring Fling.
The programming board also will be having events regularly on campus, such as weekly WAC events and Weekend Programming once a month. Schrodermier said it can range from going to see a movie or roller-skating. They are also hoping to bring more Creighton in Common events, which are events that create global and social awareness.
“CSU Program Board’s whole goal is to bring high-quality programs to campus to meet the diverse needs of the student body,” Schrodermier said.
