Owl City, the increasingly popular electronic/pop artist otherwise known as Adam Young, kicked off his 2010 Winter Tour with a concert in Omaha Music Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Young confessed to the audience before playing the hit song “Fireflies” that he had been sick for the past few days. Despite this, the sold-out concert hall was brimming with enthusiasm for the night’s performance.
Young began his career in 2007 in Owatonna, Minnesota when his parents went away for the weekend. Looking for a way to pass the time, he began composing songs in his parents’ basement and later released his first album–”Of June”–on Myspace. Word of Young’s unique music quickly spread, and in March of 2008 he released “Maybe I’m Dreaming”, his second album.
In his Tuesday concert, Young charmed fans with his unique and sublime melodies for over an hour. He was accompanied by a pianist, cellist, violist, and drums, and encouraged the audience to sing along to any songs they knew. The concert ended with a song from his first album (“Hello Seattle”) and a promise from Young that, “Next time, I won’t be sick.”
Owl City’s winter tour will visit many cities in the United States over the next few months. A full list of dates and locations can be found at here
