You get a text from a friend, and respond with a sarcastic remark. Unfortunately, something gets lost in the translation from verbal to written form, and your friend takes the comment seriously. Now you’re apologizing to an angry friend.
Does this situation sound familiar to you? If you’re nearly as sarcastic as me, it’s a situation you have been in several times. But now, those of us who live in a world full of sarcasm aren’t going to have to be in that situation ever again thanks to the firm Sarcasm Inc.
The SarcMark, is a new punctuation mark that is meant to signify a sarcastic remark in an email or text message. Some have been critical of the SarcMark because using a sarcasm punctuation mark removes the subtlety of the statement. However, that subtlety is hard to accomplish in written form. Now, the period surrounded by a squiggly line will let your friends know that you are being sarcastic and will save you from having to apologize and explain yourself.
The SarcMark is currently available for download from www.SarcMarc.com for $1.99.
Right now, the SarcMark is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X and some BlackBerries, but the company is working to make it available on other mobile devices.
