As each dark, October day passes, we creep closer to one of the most festive and celebrated holidays of the yearβHalloween. This holiday can be observed in various ways, from trick-or-treating, to pumpkin carving, even bobbing for apples. However, everyone knows the best way is to celebrate is by releasing your inner Goth at the eighth annual SUCK IT!Goth Ball at the Slowdown.
Event Organizer and Creighton University alum Niamh Murphy, promises an eventful night of sinister fun. “This year’s event is different from the past years because we have made it appeal to everyone. The environment is far more industrial and diverse for every type,” Murphy explained.
The venue will be completely transformed in honor of the night of mayhem. Event organizers have been working for the past few months to create a frighteningly flawless Gothic extravaganza. From handmade cages and runways to a Hooked Suspension team, even a Gothic belly dancing groupβthere is non-stop entertainment.
Years before, the Goth Ball was held at Club Nico and Sokol Auditorium; this year’s event at Slowdown is expected to have the largest turnout. “It will be an amazing night, we have been having weekly meetings for the past couple months and countless people came together to make this event possible,” said Murphy.
The event is sponsored by big names like Budweiser and Monster, meaning there will be a wide array of drink specials. There will also be local Omaha sponsors present, like Big Brain Tattoo & Piercing, who will host a Monster Mistress costume contest. Various prizes and free items will be distributed throughout the evening.
Omaha Fashion Week designers and models will also partake in the fashion runway display. Designer Gothic clothing and accessories will be for sale at booths.
Aside from the runway show, entertainment for the evening will be performances by: And Collapse & Cloven Path, with Djs: W.E.R.D., Emy, and more!
Murphy said, “The bands are really fresh on the scene, but Cloven Path has been around awhile, so there’s a lot of diversity for all age groups. There’s really not a minute where something isn’t happening.”
The event will be held Friday, October 29. Doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is $15 at the door. $10 in advance tickets are available at www.somethingwicked.com. All proceeds from the event will go to the Nebraska Humane Society.
