Omaha Symphony’s “The Music of Michael Jackson”

Imagine Michael Jackson’s iconic song “Thriller” amplified by a full orchestra and performed by a Broadway veteran. It’s almost as good as the real deal.

On Saturday, the Omaha Symphony, led by vocalist James Delisco, will perform its concert “The Music of Michael Jackson” in honor of the legendary pop superstar.

The concert, which will take place at the Holland Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m., kicks off the center’s Omaha Symphony’s Rock Series. Tickets range from $25 to $75, but students can receive special discounts by emailing [email protected]. In the spirit of Halloween, the concert will feature favorites like “Smooth Criminal” and “Thriller,” as well as Jackson’s earlier tunes like “ABC.”

Lead vocalist James Delisco, who has performed both on Broadway and in Las Vegas, will be reviving all of Jackson’s best moves, energy and vocals. Delisco said it is an honor to be bringing Jackson’s spirit back to the stage since he has long admired the pop icon.

“I grew up with Michael Jackson,” Delisco said. “I come from the school of

Michael Jackson.”

Growing up in a low-income family, Delisco vividly remembers being invited to a Jackson show for free as a child. He recalls Jackson as having a “humble and loving spirit,” which really inspired him to develop his own creative talents. With early encouragement from his grandmother, he began to build his own music and dance career.

“He touched so many lives – including mine – and he did it quietly,” Delisco said. “He was one of the greatest performers of my generation, if not of all time.”
