The app βHeads Up,β available on the Apple App Store or iTunes, allows a popular party game to be played anytime, anywhere.
Heads Up is a game app that converts a well-known party game, played with cards, into a digital format so it can be played virtually anywhere without the hassle of having to remember to bring a deck of cards.
The game itself involves users holding a phone or mobile device up to their forehead and having teammates try and describe the word displayed without actually saying the word itself. Users can pick from a variety of card decks including celebrities, animals, music, accents and impressions.
In addition to these categories, there are more unique decks that include cards just for kids, totally 80s and perfect pairs that can be bought. Users also have the option to be creative and make their own decks.
To teach users how to play the game, the app has a tutorial hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, who adds humor while explaining the rules of the game.
To begin playing, users pick a deck. They then have 60 seconds to guess the word on the screen through clues their partner gives them. When they get an answer correct, the user flips the screen forward to move onto the next word. Another fun feature of the app is a camera that films the people playing while the screen is on the guesserβs forehead.
Heider College of Business sophomore Katie Beaudoin had never heard of this game before, but really enjoyed playing.
βI think this game is so fun,β Beaudoin said. βI want to buy it myself. I canβt wait to show my mom; she will love it!β
Arts & Sciences sophomore Carolyn Dolejs had heard of Heads Up, but likes playing it more on a phone.
βIt is a lot more convenient on a phone,β Dolejs said. βYou can bring it with you and play in any kind of setting, like at parties or on a car trip.β
According to both, βHeads Upβ is a fun app that is both challenging and entertaining.
βWe played for such a long time, pretty much until the phone died,β Beaudoin said. βI would definitely recommend this app to anyone!β
