O
ctober is my absolute favorite month. I know, cue the Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes and L.L. Bean boots, right? Aside from significant moments like my birthday (Oct. 11, just like Hallie and Annie in βThe Parent Trapβ), fall break and Halloween, the entire month seems like a celebration.Β
The leaves begin to change color, the air becomes crisp and cool and the scent of pumpkins and bonfires lingers. Every October, I have this overwhelming urge to pick apples or bundle up in blankets and go on a hay ride. The obsession is a little disgusting, but I love to kick back after a full and joyful fall day and climb into bed wearing the fleece leggings my mother insisted on purchasing for me, with my βAutumnβ candle burning and a cup of hot chocolate in my hands for a night time of movie watching.Β
Honestly, I canβt imagine a more ideal way to spend my time. If you want to Netflix and keep warm, too (as opposed to chillβ¦get it?). Hereβs a list of five movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this month.Β
Available Oct. 1: The Classics
1. βA Cinderella Storyβ Yes, Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray are back! When this movie premiered, I remember begging my mom to let me see it even though she wasnβt sure if the content of a teen-mystery-love-story was appropriate for my nine year-old self. But waiting for her answer was βlike waiting for rain in this drought: useless and disappointing.β
2.βTitanicβ The classic love story that will have us in tears for centuries, βTitanicβ features Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as Jack and Rose, two star-crossed lovers reminiscent of Shakespeareβs Romeo and Juliet. If you have been living under a rock and have no idea how Titanic ends, spoiler alert: I think we can all agree there was definitely enough room for both of them on that board.
3. βFerris Buellerβs Day Offβ Arguably one of the greatest pieces of American popular culture, βFerris Buellerβs Day Offβ is the pinnacle of the 1980s teen film phenomenon. With a hit soundtrack and the most lovable trio of characters, Ferris and his friends will have you chasing the adventure of a lifetime. Bueller? Bueller?
4. βThe GrinderβΒ Ah, yes, Rob Lowe, I could use more of you in my life, especially since βParks and Recreationβ ended. βThe Grinderβ details the life and times of an actor who played a TV lawyer but is now attempting to become a real lawyer.Β
Apparently, critics have compared its smart script to that of β30 Rock,β but I suppose Iβll let you be the judge of that.
Available Oct. 14: New
5. βHaters Back Offβ The popular YouTube star Miranda Sings (aka Colleen Ballinger) will make her television debut in βHaters Back Off.β
Miranda Sings boasts her talents in singing, acting, dancing and practicing magic among a plethora of other equally amazing feats.Β
Β Honestly, there doesnβt seem to be anything she canβt do. If youβre not familiar with Miranda Sings, I suggest you watch her video with Tori Kelly. I laugh so hard I cry every single time.
