The Student Leadership and Involvement Center hosted its Winter Involvement Fair last week, which invited Creighton students to learn about the various organizations present on campus.Β
Members of multiple student groups as well as several campus departments spoke to students about their organizations at individual display booths set up in the Skutt Ballroom.Β
SLICβs assistant director of programming and student organizations, Molly Salisbury, said that the Winter Involvement Fair is a good opportunity for students that transferred or did not have the chance to connect with an organization last fall.
Salisbury also said that SLIC tries to provide βan element of funβ to the event.Β
This year, Creighton Dining Services provided a food sampling, and SLIC gave away to-go soup containers.Β
There were more than 30 different organizations being represented at this yearβs Winter Involvement Fair.
Some of the many organizations at the fair included Investment Banking Club, Culinary Club, Anime Club, Hui O Hawaii, College Democrats and Turning Point USA.
College of Arts and Sciences junior Valerie Pederson, who helped represent Program Board at the fair, said the event is a useful way to engage with students.
βThe Winter Involvement Fair gives us a really good way to reach a new group of students that are coming to check out the events, reach students we donβt usually get to meet and it gives us a chance to give out magnets and publicity things to promote all of our upcoming events,β Pederson said.
Similarly, College of Arts and Sciences junior and member of Gender and Sexuality Alliance, Katie Sotelo said that the Winter Involvement Fair is about building the community.Β
The involvement fair is also a helpful way for students to find out what is happening on campus and in the community, said College of Arts and Sciences senior Maryann Rigo, who was representing the Cortina Community.Β
βCortina is doing a lot of empowerment in the community and wanting to reach students, not just Cortinians,β Rigo said.
Even though the Winter Involvement Fair is not as big as the Skutt Shutdown, Salisbury said that it helps students explore the community.Β
βIt is an opportunity for our new conditional status organizations to get the name out there about their club,β Salisbury said.
