Clarkson overshadows no-shows

Kelly Clarkson’s performance in Lincoln last Thursday was lively and full of personality. Last minute changes in the line-up were disappointing, but Clarkson managed to energize the audience none-the-less.

The Veronicas and Parachute were both supposed to open for Clarkson, but neither of them performed. Eric Hutchinson replaced the bands in the line-up. While his set was enjoyable and he managed to create some laughs in the audience, they were noticeably unenthusiastic. Eric Hutchinson just isn’t the same as The Veronicas.

When Kelly Clarkson finally made it onto stage it almost made up for the disappointing opening. She sang songs from all her albums, including ‘Hazel Eyes’ and ‘Breakaway’. She also sang some interesting covers, including ‘Seven Nation Army’ by the White Stripes, which showed off her vocal prowess. She said the covers gave her a chance to sing songs she wished she had written. In between songs Clarkson was not afraid to let her personality show through by telling anecdotes about songs in her set, her life and her family.

Despite Kelly Clarkson’s stellar performance the concert was disappointing. The tickets were for the Veronicas, Parachute and Clarkson, and with the absence of the first two it was a let down. Hutchinson made a valiant effort to make up it, but unfortunately it did not work. If you went to see Kelly Clarkson and that was all, then the concert was fantastic. However, if you had wanted to see either of the opening bands you should have double-checked the final line-up before going.
