The Creighton School of Pharmacy and Health Professions will be hosting the 16th annual Sherman-Steichen 5k/10k Run-Walk on Saturday to benefit the Physical Therapy Leadership Guild and Phi Lamda Sigma in the school of pharmacy in honor of Brett Sherman and Nicholas Steichen.
Accepted into Creightonβs pharmacy program fall of 1995, Brett Sherman is remembered as a dependable, considerate and well-loved friend who enjoyed spending time outdoors and with family and friends. Nick Steichen was a member of the Creighton University Physical Therapy class of 2000. Friends described him as a very talented and unique person. As a friend to everyone, he helped others whenever he could and maintained an optimistic, generous and patient attitude. While Steichen always earned good grades, he was never too busy to help out a classmate with their coursework. Steichen was a true family man, as he always made it a point to tell others about his family members. Although they were members of different schools, Sherman and Steichen were great friends. They died in a tragic car accident on January 2, 1998 and in their honor a memorial run was started and has continued ever since.
βI would say our favorite part of being in charge of the event this year is helping to continue the tradition that has been happening for 16 years to help honor two great men,” Warnken said. “Each year the families try to come and it is great to get to meet the families and show our support so many years later.”
The run is also a great opportunity for the physical therapy and pharmacy department to come together to put on such a great event.
βIt allows us to encourage people to get moving for a good cause, which is helping our leaders in the School of Pharmacy and Health professionals be able to do more for our community through different service acts,β Warnken said.
