ThinkFast got Creighton students to compete for a $200 cash prize by answering questions on a variety of topics.
The trivia game took place Jan. 30 at 9 p.m. According to its website, ThinkFast, developed in 1997, is a program that non-intrusively exposes participants to, and educates them about a custom topic; at the same time, it entertains them in a safe, relaxed and fun environment.
“We’ve brought ThinkFast to campus before and it goes really well. It provides a fun, somewhat educational activity as a study break; plus who doesn’t love the chance to win $200?” Says Joel Henriksen, vice president of programming for CSU.
The game consisted of two rounds. In each round, competitors consisting of both individuals and teams, answered questions ranging from naming a music video, to answering ‘ESP’ questions such as, “how many teams (playing) said yes to the (previous) question: do you think you’re sexy?”
Other questions in the game were: “Star Wars episodes 1,2,3 chronicle the downfall of the Old Republic and the rise of the ___” (answer: Galactic Empire), “How many 3 pointers did Creighton score against Villanova?” (answer: 21)and, “In which decade was the Super Bowl created?” (answer: 1960s). Chosen volunteers also had a chance for a spot in the championship round by competing in challenges such as: singing, dancing, convincing the crowd that there is life on earth, and that pizza is the best midnight snack (versus hamburgers).
At the end of each round, the top three scorers along with a winner from the volunteer competition competed for a spot in the championship round.
Winner Gabrielle Bruckner placed in the championship round by singing “Royals” by Lorde.
“I really love to sing, and Royals fits in my range and I sing it all the time, so I thought it would be perfect. I was super nervous because I generally don’t sing in front of people but I guess it was worth the nervousness in the end,” Bruckner said.
In the championship round, Bruckner answered correctly first and held on to the lead.
“When I started the game I definitely thought I could win $200. As it went on I realized it was going to be a little bit more difficult, but I was in the top five most of the time so I thought I might have a chance. I had a super weird feeling that I would win, so when I did I felt sort of casual about it, but I was still semi-shocked” Bruckner said.
Bruckner enjoys doing trivia games and says she knows a lot of random facts. The sophomore, communications and theatre minor, celebrated her win with friends by purchasing a peanut butter cup pie from Village Inn with her winnings.
