Creighton University will be hosting the seventh annual “Hand-in-Hand” event in the Skutt Student Center Ballroom April 6, 2014 from 1 p.m.- 4 p.m.
Creighton student volunteers will be welcoming guests with developmental disabilities from the Omaha area to visit campus and enjoy a day filled with activities including games, music, crafts, karaoke and food.
The “Hand-in-Hand” Facebook page explains that,
“According to Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Creighton University’s spiritual tradition thrives because we seek to ‘find God in all.’ As ‘men and women for and with others,’ we strive to welcome and serve those with special needs and different abilities and gifts and invite them to join us for a day of hospitality, community, and creativity. In order to nurture relationships with adults with disabilities, we host ‘Hand-in-Hand,’ an annual event of companionship, listening, and joy”.
Jennifer Kennedy-Croft, Pastoral Minister in Campus Ministry shared her thoughts on the event,
“This is a wonderful event for both our guests and the Creighton students
that are partnered with them. It is a great community builder and the
students that are involved are really working hard to make the day a fun
one.”
This year Campus Ministry is in need of 150 CU students to serve as “partners” or companions for the guests who will join us for the “Hand-in-Hand” event.
More information about becoming a “partner” can be found on the Campus ministry “Hand-in-Hand” webpage.
Molly Khoury, a past volunteer with the event strongly encourages students to consider volunteering,
“Students should get involved in this event because it’s a blast! You get to make new friends, play cool games, and enjoy some refreshments with your partner.”
