Spring Fling gives students a break

CSU has been putting on daily events this week as part of Creighton’s Spring

Fling Week.Β

This year’s Spring Fling is chalk-full of events, with a total of six nights featuring festivities that extend into the Monday of next week. This past Monday, Brandeis served a special dinner from 4:30 – 7 p.m. After that, the Program Board added a Monday After Class (MAC) at 9 p.m. in the Skutt Fireplace Lounge. There was a photo booth, fanny packs, free food and more at the kick-off event of the week.Β

β€œI was really excited about the good food in Brandeis last night,” said sophomore Heider College of Business student, Stephanie Schlange. β€œTheir menu was a lot different than usual, and they had a great variety of food that fit the Spring Fling theme well. There were pulled pork sandwiches, sweet potato fries, cotton candy, caramel apples, hot soft pretzels and cheese, banana splits, corn dogs and a lot more. I definitely left Brandeis with a full stomach.” Β

On Tuesday, CU’s Got Talent took place at 7 p.m. in the Skutt Fireplace Lounge. This event showcased a wide variety of different acts and talents performed by students across Creighton’s campus.Β

On Wednesday at 7 p.m., Ted Decker, a speed artist, performed his artistic act by the Skutt Fireplace.Β

On Thursday, students enjoyed an evening of free bowling, laser tag and go-karting at Sempeck’s Bowling and Entertainment. Β

The biggest event of the week is on Saturday with the annual Spring Fling Concert. This year, the American Authors and NONONO are performing at The Slowdown. The American Authors are known for their most popular song, β€œBest Day Of My Life.” Doors open at 7 p.m. to those who already have a ticket.

β€œAfter I heard the American Authors’  most famous song, I looked up the rest of their album, and I loved every single song they played. I love their vibe. … Listening to them as a musician myself is a breath of fresh air, and seeing them come to Creighton is refreshing to see,” Business sophomore Joey Bastian said.

The final event of Spring Fling is on April 14th at 7 p.m. when Rachel Brown, a singer and songwriter, will be performing in

front of the Skutt Fireplace.Β

β€œEveryone I talk to is stressed out, and it’s nice to have an event to look forward to that’s fun … To everyone who is studying and stressing out; take a break,” Bastian said. β€œI love that it can be a totally unplanned, spur of the moment kind of thing. It provides students with an escape from stress.”
