Theta Phi Alpha and Delta Zeta of Creightonβs fraternity and sorority life community partnered with each other last week for the Womenβs Center for Advancement, collecting monetary and tangible donations in the Skutt Student Center.Β
The fundraiser was promoted as βPower to Herβ in an effort to support the female population in Omaha that may be experiencing difficulties right now.Β
The Womenβs Center for Advancement works to aid women and their children who may be victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking to achieve safety and empower them to lead self-determined lives.Β
This fundraiser has become a tradition for both sororities and one that aligns with each organizationβs set of philanthropic values.Β
βFor the last several years, Delta Zeta and Theta Phi Alpha have been collaborating to host Power to Her, the philanthropy event that supports the WCA,β said Emily Carpenter, a sophomore in the College of Nursing who serves as the vice president of Philanthropy for Delta Zeta. βAva Verzani of Theta Phi Alpha and myself were carrying on a tradition of uniting our sororities to help the local community.βΒ
βThis event relates to both TPA and DZβs values as it is bringing power to one woman from another,β said Ava Verzani, a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences.Β
Carpenter went on, saying that βDelta Zetaβs values of generosity, citizenship, and empowerment beautifully align with βPower to Her.β Creightonβs community and members of both sororities donated to help local women and children. βPower to Herβ allowed the Creighton community an avenue to donate items that directly go to improving the autonomy of Omahaβs women.βΒ
A wide variety of donations were accepted but items such as diapers, feminine products, and winter clothing along with reusable grocery, tote bags and hygiene products were among the most collected.Β
βWe collected a great amount of items this year,β said Verzani in reference to her feelings about the success of the event.
