Should Creighton have a theme song [besides “The White and The Blue?”]
Dear Bluejay,
Yes. Absolutely.
A thousand times, yes.
In fact, I canβt believe weβve actually gone this long without one.
What have we been doing?
Now, before you panic, I am not proposing we play the “The White and The Blue” on a loop like a haunted carousel soundtrack every time someone opens the doors to the Harper Center.
That would be cruel, unusual and just overall strange.
Iβm saying we need an official theme songβsomething that captures the true nature of Creighton.
Letβs brainstorm:
βDonβt Stop Believinββ? I think it’s a little too clichΓ©.
βMr. Brightsideβ? Already Creightonβs unofficial anthem every Saturday night.
The βPhineas and Ferbβ theme song? Nah…
Honestly, the ideal Creighton theme song should hit the following criteria:
1. Be inspiring but also mildly chaotic (like walking to class uphill in a 10 below zero degree windchill while having a spiritual crisis).
2. Be catchy enough to unite people across all majors, from nursing students with three hours of sleep to theology majors trying to interpret your existential Tweets.
3. Include a slow build so the soccer team can walk in dramatically.
What Iβm saying is that this isnβt a silly idea; this is a cultural necessity.
Imagine orientation week with a chosen hype song.
Imagine Blue Crew bursting into the student section to a campus remix of βWe Will Rock You.β
Imagine a finals week playlist that turns βWelcome to the Jungleβ into βWelcome to Heider Hall: It’s 3 a.m. and the fire alarm went off again.β
Until we get an official theme song, I vote we all scream βViva La Vidaβ by Coldplay every time we pass the fountain.
If that doesnβt build community, I donβt know what will.
I hope this helps!
