Margaret Zimmer, who served as Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Creighton for nearly eight years, is no longer with the university.
On Oct. 12 it was announced, via email, to campus partners, moderators and advisers that Zimmer was no longer a faculty member effective the day prior. Executive members within the Greek community were also notified by Kelsey this day in a different email.
βAs this information impacts a great deal of students, the information was shared with the community as soon as it was known,β said Katie Kelsey, director of the Student Leadership and Involvement Center and current main point of contact for the Greek community.
At the time of publication on Oct. 23, the Greek community was not yet informed of the matter, rather executives of chapters were informed and word spread quickly regarding Zimmerβs departure.
In the email to campus partners, moderators and advisers, Kelsey acknowledged Zimmerβs contributions after stating her departure, noting she was crucial in βcreat[ing] a 5-year strategic plan, [bringing] Dance Marathon to campus and [having] successfully rebranded our community to Fraternity & Sorority Life.β
There was no reason stated in the email as to why Zimmer left, and Kelsey declined comment on the matter, stating βCreighton does not comment on personnel matters.β
Since the initial notification of Zimmerβs departure, different responsibilities of the position have been split up within members of the SLIC and Division of Student Life offices, namely Emma Rapp, Kelsey and Molly Salisbury, according to Kelsey.
βIt is our goal to ensure that students feel supported and that they continue to engage with the resources available to them,β said Kelsey.
The departure comes at a busy point in the semester for Greek organizations, with most having several events still planned in the upcoming months and preparing for primary recruitment in the spring.
There is no set date for a permanent replacement to begin, though according to Kelsey, the Universityβs process to receive approval to hire for the position is being followed.
UPDATE: An email was sent to the Greek community regarding Zimmer’s departure on Oct. 24. It contained no new information.Β
