The ninth annual TEDxOmaha comes to the Harper Center on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The lineup of speakers features Omaha locals ranging from musicians to Marine veterans to investigative reporters. Creightonβs Tim Guthrie, a professor in the Journalism, Media and Computing department is one of the 10 speakers and performers to be featured at TEDxOmaha.
Guthrie is a renowned filmmaker and artist.
The theme for the talks, βTime to Engage,β shapes the talks and performances at the event. The speakers will explore what it means to engage, disengage and re-engage in the world today.
This theme differs greatly from the previous yearβs theme, βEverything Changes,β which featured numerous refugees among its speakers and performers.
The TEDxOmaha event has grown in recent years, with a 2016 talk from Sofia Jawed-Wessel, a University of Nebraska at Omaha professor, being featured on the parent site, TED.com. The national talk series, TED, began its independently organized events, known as TEDx, in 2009.
Strawberry Olive, the executive producer, highlighted the unique nature of TEDx events, saying, Β βTEDxOmaha is community focused, and we provide a platform to share the great ideas and people that are here.β
