A new scholarship program for students in the Heider College of Business has been recreated and extended from the Scott Scholars program.
Donated by the Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation, the $14.6 million program will recruit and develop Creighton students for business careers in Omaha and Nebraska over a nine-year commitment period.
The Scott Scholars program, notably the most generous scholarship Creighton offers, will grant five Nebraskan students and 10 out-of-state students full tuition, along with room and board.
“I look forward to the opportunities this will provide to deserving Creighton business students, and the impact this will have on our city and state,” the Rev. Daniel Hendrickson wrote to the student body in an email.
Dr. Thomas Murray, provost, said the new full-ride scholarships will allow the University to continue to recruit outstanding students.
“This also continues Creighton’s positive impact on brain gain in the state of Nebraska,” Murray said.
Geared toward transforming the business environment in Omaha, the Scott Scholars program intends to send the 15 winners right outside the Creighton community to make a difference.
“With the generous scholarship support provided by the Scott Foundation, local students, as well as students from out-of-state, will be a part of an elite group of students focused on advancing the Omaha business community,” said Mary Chase, vice provost for enrollment management and University planning. “With an entrepreneurial spirit, the recipients of this scholarship will provide a strong foundation for the future of business in Omaha.”
The Dean of the Heider College of Business, Anthony Hendrickson, said he believes the significance of the Scott Scholars program will become widespread.
“Obviously, the 15 annual, full-ride scholarships will directly help those 15 families with financial support,” Hendrickson said. “But beyond helping those 15 students and families each year, the Scott Foundation gift will assist us to continue to attract the best and brightest from around the globe, adding to the diversity of our student body, as well as allowing us to showcase the outstanding Omaha business environment and opportunities that exist here in our own community.”
“As such, this gift not only directly impacts those students who are recipients of the scholarships but enhances the educational environment and business climate for all our stakeholders, locally and beyond; students, families, employers, and alumni.”
