The Green Jays in conjunction with the Creighton Students Union hosted a farmers market outside the Hixson-Lied building on April 24 for students to enjoy locally grown food, food trucks and activities.

John Jacobson, a vendor selling locally sourced caramel popcorn at Lauren Beth’s Popcorn stand, said that the farmers market is an important event to support local vendors.

“It is very important,” Jacobson said. “First of all, you’re supporting the local vendors that struggle. Most of us don’t have brick and mortar stores, so it is very important that you guys come to farmers markets.” 

Emily Burke, Green Jays president and a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, said that the farmers market was a great way to maintain a sense of community during COVID.

“[The farmers market is] a chance for students to see each other face-to-face, which has become a rarity. I definitely think that creativity is important now more than ever, as we have to adapt and honor COVID guidelines while trying to maintain community.” 

Max Kosch, a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences, said, “I really enjoyed being able to spend time with other students, which is something that, as a freshman, I have had little opportunity to do.”
