Anna (Annie) Semb, a second-year pharmacy student from San Diego died late last week on Saturday.Β
Semb started her journey at Creighton in 2020 via a unique path.Β
She was enrolled in Creightonβs Distance Pathway pharmacy program.Β
The program allows select students like Semb, a full-time, yet flexible, education path to obtaining a doctor of pharmacy degree.Β
Although Semb wasnβt with her peers on campus, that didnβt limit her ability to positively effect the Creighton community.Β
She will be remembered at Creighton as a resilient student who was passionate about her discipline and someone who took advantage of the opportunities that were available.Β
Semb was involved even from a distance. In her spare time, she served as the secretary for Creightonβs Interprofessional Mental Health Organization.Β
She left a long-lasting impression on the faculty who got to take part in her journey at Creighton University.Β
Interim Dean Amy Friedman Wilson, PharmD, recognized Semb as a student dedicated to her studies even through her illness.Β
She is remembered by her parents who said via the Rev. Daniel Hendrickson, S.J.βs, email that she loved Creighton and her journey with the Distance Pathway pharmacy program.Β
Staff member of academic and student affairs for Pharmacy, OT, and PT, Katie Wadas-Thalken said that Semb was, βreally interested in becoming a pharmacist and didnβt want to put that dream on hold even though she was sick.βΒ
In an announcement to the university, Hendrickson, offered his prayers to all affected by Sembβs passing.Β
βAs a community, let us hold Annie and her family, friends, and classmates in our prayers. May our loving God be a source of comfort and support during this difficult time,β Hendrickson said in an email to the Creighton student body.Β
Creighton encourages those affected to reach out to the services on campus designed to assist students during difficult times, especially the Student Counseling Services and Campus Ministry.Β
The University will be notifying the greater Creighton community when more information about any memorial services havebeen shared and those details progressively become available to the public.
