Fineas Herrera, junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, was elected the next president of the Creighton Students Union.
βShould he follow in his goals, as he is committed to, heβs up for the job,β current CSU President Frankie Pastor-Rivera said.
Herreraβs initial comment on his upcoming presidency promoted student involvement. βThe first thing I want to do is send a survey to campus to gauge participation level in student government,β Herrera said. Β Β
Herrera said that he intends to try to find ways to work with employees at Jack & Edβs to help them find ways to further their education either through GED courses or courses on Creightonβs campus. βI know that would be administrative, but I spoke with them, and they work 12-hour days, and theyβre stuck in those jobs,β he said.
Herrera is looking forward to his presidency. βIβm pretty excited [for the student body presidency]. I really like going to Creighton and I like the community here a lot. Iβm excited to take part in and lead that community,β he said.Β
βIβm a little sad, but otherwise Iβm completely fine with the results,β presidential candidate and sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences, Quinlan Cote said.
βI think heβll be a good guy, a good president. Iβve heard a lot of his plans and I think a lot of them are good and will benefit the students. All I hope for is a better Creighton.βΒ
βIβm thankful for the opportunity and everyone that voted for me,β another candidate, junior Greg Gonzalez in the Heider College of Business, said. βCongratulations to everyone that came out and, obviously, Fineas for winning it.β
Candidate Shams Hassiki did not endorse the presidency of Herrera due to unverifiable beliefs.
As this story continues to develop vice presidentially, Pastor-Rivera stuck to CSU election policy. βCSU is governed by our constitution, policies and procedures and bylaws,β Pastor-Rivera said.
