This past Saturday, the Creighton Dance Team hosted their annual clinic to show off their skills via Zoom from the Ruth Scott Training center.Β
With tryouts for the team approaching this Spring, the clinic was an opportunity for individuals not only to grasp the rigor of the CDT but also to ease pretryout nerves.Β
Danielle Roepke, a sophomore in the college of Arts and Sciences said, βI really enjoyed seeing incoming prospects for the Creighton Dance Team. It gives us a sense of the incoming talent we can see going into the tryout season which is in April.βΒ
The clinic was formatted to feature the skills executed by the team and was followed by a question-and-answer session to offer insight for broader questions on what life is like for a collegiate dancer at Creighton University.Β
Regan Lavallee, a senior in the college of Arts and Sciences said, βAssisting during the clinic is a full-circle experience. I remember being in their shoes as a high school senior attending clinics and researching different schools. It is an exciting time!βΒ
Due to concerns regarding COVID-19 rates in the general Omaha area, the CDT decided to host the event through a virtual format. Kayleigh Gross, a junior in the college of Arts and Sciences said, βeven though we were on Zoom you could see the excitement and determination of the girls to make the team!βΒ
The event cost participants $25 to attend and the money is to be used to help fund the CDT. Registration was open to incoming freshmen along with all Creighton students, and there were 15 people in attendance.Β
The attendees had the opportunity to learn the Bluejay fight song and corresponding dance. They also worked on several skills including leg holds, toe touches and pom technique, the genre performed at several Creighton events. More information about the whole of the audition and selection process can be found on the CDTβs website.
