My assistant opinion editor and good friend, Ben Powers, wrote a piece arguing for the superiority of chunky over creamy peanut butter for our beloved Opinion section a couple of weeks ago.
Even though I might have the opposite opinion as Ben, I still have no right to not publish his column just because I disagree with him.
I am so sorry, Ben, but creamy peanut butter is ten times better than crunchy peanut butter, and the masses would agree with me.
When I was little, my Aunt Lisa bought me a jar of creamy peanut butter just to devour with my own little hands.
To this day, I still have to have a jar of creamy peanut butter in my pantry at all times. I put it on celery, saltines, sandwiches, smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, ice cream and more.
However, the best combination of all time is creamy peanut butter and chocolate. My stomach just grumbled thinking about it. Reeseβs Peanut Butter Cups are the best thing since sliced bread (with creamy peanut butter on top).
Reeseβs Peanut Butter Cups are amazing on their own. The classic cup consists of a thick interior of traditional and smooth peanut butter with a thin layer of milk chocolate to surround it.
Β There is nothing wrong with the classic; it is a solid cup, and I have zero complaints. Overall, I would give it an eight out of 10.
Next are the holiday themed cups. Unfortunately, these donβt come in a cup shape. They come in pumpkins, bats, holiday lights, trees, footballs, eggs, hearts, snowmen and more.
Like the classic cups, they consist of a thick interior of smooth peanut butter with a thin layer of milk chocolate to surround it.
Although you may guess I would have the same opinion on the holiday cups as the classic ones, you would be mistaken. The holiday cups always come with a weird layer of grease that I am not here to support.
After eating one of the holiday collection cups, I often feel gross and icky when I see the layer of grease and residue within the wrapper. Thus, I am going to rate the holiday cups a six out of 10.
I almost didnβt include Reeseβs Pieces because I donβt think they deserve acknowledgment. These disgusting wannabe M&Mβs are discarded when they land in my possession.
Not only are they not as tasty and enjoyable as the original cups, they are also not the same taste. Donβt even get me started on the people that refer to them as βReesies Peesies.β
If you want peanut butter chocolate candies in that size, just grab the filled peanut butter M&Ms rather than the Reeseβs brand.
The same goes for any variation of the Reeseβs bar. It just doesnβt hit the spot like a cup would. The bars and the pieces are given a three out of 10.
After writing about my least favorite peanut butter candies, I need to talk about my favorites in order to lighten my mood.
My all-time favorite Reeseβs peanut butter cups are the minis. This is primarily due to the fact that the ratio from peanut butter to chocolate is almost even, making it even more creamy and smooth than the original.
My go-to Reeseβs will always be the mini versions (unless there are dark chocolate minis, which I will always buy if I see them). The minis are simply the best; I feel like no rebuttal could be made against that. The mini cups receive a 10/10.
Many chocolate and peanut butter combinations are worth considering outside of the Reese’s brand. One of my favorite alternative peanut butter cups are Trader Joeβs Peanut Butter Cups.
My friend took me to Trader Joeβs for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I cannot stop thinking of the peanut butter cups that I got. These cups are life-changing and an absolute must-have item for your next Trader Joeβs run.
Reeseβs Blizzards from Dairy Queen deserve to be mentioned as well. These Blizzards are my go-to order from Dairy Queen and are also suitable as a McFlurry.
The only thing I will say about Reeseβs in ice cream is that they are only acceptable with chocolate or vanilla ice cream. If you order cotton candy ice cream, donβt add Reeseβs on top (yes, that was a direct call out).
I originally started this column thinking about my love for creamy peanut butter. I was going to into depth about how much it speaks to me.
However, my love for peanut butter and chocolate outweighs my passion for peanut butter and my fingers, while typing, seemed to have a mind of their own. Chocolate and peanut butter is the best combination imaginable unless they come as βpeesies.β
