The beginning of a new semester has brought a multitude of opportunities for students to get involved in positions of leadership on campus.
Working with Welcome Week and Summer Preview are both great ways for current students to have fun and meet new people while helping new students adjust to life in college.
Arts & Sciences junior Zac Holmes is in charge of this yearβs Welcome Week.Β He was a Welcome Week leader his sophomore year and this year was able to serve as the training executive for the program.
βI think that Creighton has a really strong tradition of doing a great job to help students transition into college life,β Holmes said. Β βWe all know that it is not the easiest transition to make, but our Welcome Week and Summer Preview programs have been nationally recognized for how well they help students make that transition.β
There will be information sessions for both programs next Monday and TuesdayΒ in Rigge Science Building 120 for those interested in learning more.
Another great area for students to get involved with is Creightonβs Center for Service and Justice, commonly referred to as the CCSJ, which has both paid and volunteer positions that students can apply for online.
Arts & Sciences junior Elizabeth Samson has been involved with the CCSJ since her sophomore year.
βI think people should get involved with the CCSJ because of the opportunities to grow and learn through building relationships and the experiences of exploring how others live through immersion and reflection,β Samson said. Β βThe CCSJ is not a place we can find everywhere, so why not take advantage of living out the Creighton mission in a very direct way while we’re here?β
One such student that plans on taking advantage of all that Creighton has to offer is Arts & Sciences freshman Haley Warren.Β From the moment she arrived on campus, Warren has been an active member of a long list of groups and organizations on campus.Β She has especially enjoyed getting involved with the CCSJ and has already turned in her application to work there next year.
βThe CCSJ has been where Iβve found a sense of community and has helped me to meet people outside my floor,β Warren said.
Additionally, Warren plans on applying to be a Welcome Week leader since she had such a positive experience with the program upon first arriving at Creighton.
This new year brings many opportunities for students to continue to get involved on campus.
