The Honors Program Student Advisory Board held its fifth-annual Quiz Bowl in Harper 3028 on April 7.Β
The Quiz Bowl featured jeopardy-style trivia emceed by Matthew Reznicek. Refreshments were served as participants competed on teams of four, answering questions divided into categories that included classical literature, current events and pop culture. Β
A subcommittee organized the event.Β According to College of Arts and Sciences freshman Brendan Rezich, (who was on the committee), the Creighton Student Union funded the event. Β
Students on the Quiz Bowl committee wrote most of the questions.Β College of Arts and Sciences junior Joe Baronovic, (who is studying abroad in Rome), sent in slides he created focusing on Roman history and narrated the questions on a voice recording.Β
βThe questions were hard but very creative,β College of Arts and Sciences freshman Gillian Straub said.Β βWe definitely learned a lot.β
Β Each round of trivia consisted of seven questions and two lightning rounds.Β During lightning rounds, images appeared on the screen, and contestants had to name as many images as they could.Β The first round consisted of book covers and the second were minor characters from The Walt Disney Co. movies.Β Lightning rounds were scored out of 20 points.
Β βEven though my team didnβt do so well, we still had a lot of fun,β College of Arts and Sciences freshman Mason Halouska said. βMy favorite part was all the weird names people came up with for their teams.β
Some team names included the Try Hards 2.0, QuizerablΓ©s and Quizpicable Me.Β The Try Hards 2.0 won the competition, according to Rezich. Β
βThe event is open to the public, so I also think itβs a really great way to bring people from the greater university community into the work we do here in the Honors Program,β said College of Arts and Sciences senior Daniel Poston.Β Poston is also president of the Honors Program Student Advisory Board. Β
βI envision that the Honors Program will continue to hold this event many years into the future, because it seems to be a hit every year,β Poston said.
