Zac Seljaas scored 19 points and BYU ended the Creighton men’s basketball’s NIT run with an 88-82 win on Tuesday night in Provo, Utah.

The Cougars will play in the NIT final four next week at Madison Square Garden in New York City against Valparaiso. The Bluejays conclude their season at 20-15.

Creighton defeated Alabama and Wagner at home in the first two rounds of the NIT before traveling to Utah for its quarterfinal contest against BYU.

Senior center Geoffrey Groselle led Creighton with 22 points while junior forward Cole Huff scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on Tuesday.

The Bluejays led by as many as 12 points in the first half, 27-15, but a defensive adjustment by BYU helped the Cougars take the lead and control of the game.

After switching to a zone defense, BYU outscored Creighton 23-10 to close the first half and take a 38-37 lead at the break.

The Bluejays kept the game within reach for the opening moments of the second half, but the Cougars’ made consecutive 3-point field goals to extend their lead to 15 points, 67-52, with 9:55 to play.

Creighton managed to cut the lead to two possessions during the closing stages of Tuesday’s game, but BYU made its final six free throws to clinch its second consecutive appearance to the NIT semifinals.

Senior guard James Milliken scored 10 points and freshman guard Ronnie Harrell Jr. added 10 to join Groselle and Huff in double figures for the Bluejays.

BYU had five players score 10 points and four scored at least 15.

Milliken and Groselle, the lone senior on Creighton’s roster, helped lead the Bluejays to a six-win improvement from a season ago, a sixth place finish in the Big East (9-9), and their 16th 20-win season in the past 18 seasons.

Groselle reached the necessary 200 field goal plateau to qualify and take over the No. 1 ranking for career field-goal percentage at Creighton.

Junior guard Maurice Watson Jr. concluded the 2015-16 campaign with 229 assists, the second-best single-season mark in program history.
