Creighton celebrated its 140th Homecoming last week. This was a monumental celebration, as this yearβs theme, βCreighton: Then and Nowβ Β prompted participants to look back on the homecomings that have passed and anticipate the ones to come.
Last week, the Creighton Students Union set up a variety of activities for students, including the Homecoming kickoff, Creighton Wipeout, CUβs Got Talent, CU Letter Showing and the annual Homecoming soccer game. There was a unique event for Jays scheduled each day of the week, leading up until the big Homecoming Court Crowning and the Homecoming dance. The nominations for this yearβs Homecoming Queen were College of Nursing seniors Nina Kelly and Megan Siembieda and College of Arts and Sciences seniors Jackie Rivas, Emily Newcomb and Aurora Kuhn. The nominations for Homecoming King were College of Arts and Sciences seniors Andrew Ascher, Patrick Dougherty, Matt Sacco and Dillon Nerland and Heider College of Business senior Max Donnelly. Matt Sacco and Jackie Rivas were crowned king and queen at the soccer game.
In addition to the undergraduate festivities, alumni were invited back to visit their old stomping grounds as well. The University hosted an Alumni Reunion Weekend for the classes of 1968, 1978, 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2008.
βItβs a delight to be here, with my classmates of Creighton, and of course, to watch the Homecoming events. I didnβt participate in Homecoming Week while I was at Creighton, so itβs good to get a second chance of witnessing it!β said Paul Tse, who graduated in 1988.
Overall, this yearβs Homecoming celebration was a fun-filled week enjoyed by students and alumni alike.
