The fashion spotlight may be on New York this week, but the newest trend may be right here in Omaha.

Tuesday night began the second annual Omaha Fashion Week at Nomad Lounge.

There are themed events each night with a fashion show in the lounge around 9 p.m. The main event, the outdoor Runway Finale will be Saturday at 6 p.m.

All events are 21+ except for the Runway Finale. Tickets and the schedule of events are at omahafashionweek.com. V.I.P. tickets are almost sold out.

Designer Sabrina Jones will be one of the 15 featured designers at the main fashion show on Saturday. She will be second in the lineup. She spoke to the Creightonian Tuesday night at the Omaha Fashion Week launch party.

“I love all the excitement and publicity. It’s amazing to know the buzz designers are getting,” Jones said.

This is Jones’ second year showing at Omaha Fashion Week. Last year she showed mostly her pieces from her degree in Fashion Design at UNL.

“This year is way more stressful. Everything I had to do from scratch. Well I didn’t weave the fabric, but still…”

One of Jones’ favorite elements of OFW is the community feel of the local designers.

“It’s not like we compete with each other because we all have different fields,” said Jones, whose designs are mostly bridal. “It’s all been very helpful.”
