After what seemed like the coldest and longest winter in a long time, finally spring is just around the corner, and with the warm weather and blue skies come spring fashion trends.
We can change our dark and dull outfits for vibrant and lively colors with eccentric prints. We can finally swap our boots for sandals and scarfs for sun dresses.
For this spring 2014, orange and pink are the new black. Pastels, metallics and florals are always a safe bet for spring trends also.
In spring, days can be very bipolar, very warm during the afternoon hours and chilly when dawn comes, so layering is still important. Jackets are a must. Jean jackets go with everything and are not too hot.
Some nail polish colors to look for this spring are pastels and darker metallic shades. Flats and loafers are worn often during spring months as well. Metallic colors, like silver or bronze, go with everything and add attitude to the whole outfit.
Arts & Sciences sophomore Hanna Smith says her favorite colors for spring are pink and mint. “My favorite spring trends are pastels and florals because they are fun and represent warmer weather,” she said.
Pink is one of the main colors this season, as Smith mentioned as one of her ultimate favorites. A white flowy dress with a light pink cardigan and silver loafers is probably the best way to dress for brunch in the Old Market.
“I love wearing summer dresses with light scarfs,” Business sophomore Nicole Vazquez-Chanlatte said. “My colors to go to are all the warm pastel colors because they [remind me of spring].”
“My favorite spring trend is a flowy top and shorts,” Nursing sophomore Christine Che said. “They are my favorite because I haven’t been able to wear them because winter was so cold. Some of my favorite colors for the season are any pastel colors; for example, beige, faded yellow, light blue and definitely white.”
Vazquez-Chanlatte and Che both love to wear pastels for spring and agree that wearing something comfortable like flowy summer dresses and shorts is the way to go.
Remember though, the key is to always be comfortable. It is unpredictable when a friend will ask you to join them in an ultimate Frisbee tournament or to simply lie on the grass beneath the sun.
